To state what a thing is, tightly enough to exclude what it is not. To define is to draw a boundary around a meaning.

The rules by which parts may be joined to make sense. A grammar governs arrangement, and arrangement is where meaning lives.

Able to be taken in without strain. Readability is a property of the writing, never of the reader.
