To look closely in order to find out. Inspection assumes something might be found that a glance would miss.

To turn attention through the eyes — seeing on purpose; and the appearance a thing offers back.

How a thing appears to the eye. Appearance is real evidence and never the whole of what a thing is.

To watch without touching — attention that leaves its subject unchanged; the witness's verb.

To read again with fresh rules — parsing repeated because the first reading has been outgrown.
